Targeted Educational Enhancement Grants

Jaques Student Art Gallery Competition:

Funded through an endowment to the Shelby County Schools Education Foundation given by the James A. Jaques and Rosemary M. Jaques Charitable Trust, this competition is designed to stimulate the creation of “world class” art.

Each year one High School student and one Middle School student receive a modest cash award to help pursue their interest in art. The artwork submitted to the competition by the students selected for the award becomes the property of Shelby County Schools and is framed for display in the Board of Education’s committee room.  Awards will be presented at the annual State of Shelby County Schools Gala held the during the spring of the year.

The information letter and entry form go out in December and submissions are accepted by the deadline in March.  Click here to download Information Letter.  Click here to download Entry Form.

Criteria for submitting an entry to the competition are:

  • Current enrollment in a Shelby County School
  • Current enrollment in an art course at the school
  • Willingness for original work to become the property of Shelby County Schools for display in its administration buildings
  • Interest in continuing to advance his/her interest in art
  • Willingness to be interviewed by the selection panel.

Deadline for 2013 Jaques Student Art Competition entries is March 29, 2013.
